My name is Rafael, I'm an electrical engineer, 36, from Birmingham and I've just bought a second hand 06 silver 1.6 megane convertible dynamique. I like sciency geeky things. Probably not that surprising.

I've already got a 98 Scenic (low mileage if you can believe that) but I don't drive very often, and wanted a change. I've also owned a 99 Saab 93 2.0 auto but is now dead.
I've registered here because it seems this megane has a few issues that I will need to iron out. Imay be an engineer but I've never dabbled in repairing cars myself, and wish to start, so I will be needing some help with the odd bits and pieces.
I can't say I'm that impressed by the build quality, but I love the shape and it seems to be a good runner (-the issues). And what is it with that weirdly placed fuse box in the engine compartment and hard to get to headlight bulb?? Weirrrd lol
I was just looking at the rear-view mirror today and the plastic shell where (presumably) the rain sensor is was not closed properly. I took it off to find that there were no alarm sensors inside, but the wires and connections for them are! What's that about? Is the alarm an optional extra and they added the wires just in case I want to fit one? I do want to fit one. Is there like a standard renault kit I can buy or something?
Also it's making that clunking sound on startup, and according to dr youtube the prognosys is that the dephaser pulley is causing it. What happens if I just ignore it for now? It only does it when the engine starts AND is cold. Heh, dephaser pulley. Sounds very Star Trek.

There are more issues, but these are the ones that concern me most.
So yes. This is me and my cars.
Rafael
