Hello all

Postby l111fsh » Sun Jul 21, 2013 2:47 pm

Hello.
I am in the process of purchasing my first Renault Megan. Im currently looking at a 1.9 Dci Mk II Coupe Convertible.

Can any of the regulars please give me a few hints and tips as to what to look out for.
I am a qualified vehicle engineer serving in the British Army (REME) and generally know what I'm looking at, but some info from those in the know would be greatly appreciated.

If there is anything I can do to help those on the forums please just send me a PM.

All the best,
Fish

Welcome :-) ensure that what ever you buy has full service history, and the service interval is 9000 miles not 18000 as listed

I thought it was 9k, 18k seemed pretty long.
After a little digging I found the Petrols are at 18k and many seem to believe the Diesels are the same.

Welcome along Fish, imo anyone who goes 18k miles between services wants their head examining, I always had at least 1 interim oil and filter change when I had a petrol Megane.

Welcome along :-)

Ive just completed a major service on a 2005 megane convertible 1.9 Dci Dynamique.
The service consisted of:

Timing Belt + Tensioner + Water Pump
Accessories Belt
Air Filter
Cabin/Pollen Filter
Fuel Filter
Oil Filter + oil change
Rear disks + Pads + bearings (bought individually and assembled)
Front Disks + Pads
Both front CV Joint
Rectified glow plug fault
Rectified minor leaking roof seals
fault finding for intermittent window control switch(will be fixed probably next month)

so, if anyone is doing any of the above jobs, send me a PM with a phone number and I can guide you through pretty much all of the above and assist with most other issues.
As mentioned before in other posts, I'm a mechanical engineer and love a challenge.

All the best,
Fish
