Just found the site by accident and hoping to benefit fom other members experience
I live in south west France and bought my megane 2 new in 2004 I've had very little problems with the car and now have 90K kilometres on the clock. I've done my own servicing for the past 5 years and am informed that I am way past a cam belt change, on checking out the price's I was informed that I would also need a new water pump at the same time
I would appreciate any help and advice from members regarding this and any other parts I might need, together with the prices I might face when buying the parts.
I was recently quoted 500 euros by a local Renault garage for the cam belt change

Joeishmather, Thanks for the quick responce. Is it essential for the water pump to be changed at the same time as the cam belt? You mention also that the garage changed the cam belt and auxillery belt, are these 2 seperate items?

Re: New member with Cam belt problem
Yes I would recommend changing the waterpump as the added tension of the new cam belt on the ok water pump could cause the waterpump to fail.. Also there is little additional labour charge doing it this way as to change the pump the belts must be removed so ding it at the same time saves on labour costs the same for the aux belt change at the same time as there should be little if anything added to the labour charges..
An yes there are 2 separate belts..
Hope that helps,

Re: New member with Cam belt problem
Joeishmather. Thanks for the very grateful info. I have the option of a local lad doing the repair or waiting until I motor down to Spain in Jan for a mobile mechanic to do the repair. In the meantime I can now order the parts from one of the internet firms. They all require the engine no? when ordering, when checking the French reg docs I have several no's and am not sure which one they need. Can I use your unquestionable ability and expertise on the Megane, to tell what No they require and where it is located.
Many thanks for your time and effort.
