I'd suggest checking the connections are being made OK, and the connector's not been put in wrong. There's no reason for it to not recognise anything on the CD-Changer, as long as it's working. Failing that, do you know anyone else with a Renault that has the same head unit? Try it in their car too...

If you do a search on the forum, these 2 seems to crop up a fair bit. A cable may be broken on the clutch (to tell the computer it's depressed).
