Its pretty straight forward, just a nut on either end of it and youll probably need a hammer to get them off, 20 mins either side maximum I would think.

Yes I cut it about an inch below the original gear knob, I just did it at a height I felt comfy, I hated how it felt originally just like the gear stick in a van I used to have! I actually cut down the length of the gear stick too, I'll go get a photo now...
