Re: Fault Code P0487 and smoke on acceleration!!!

Remove the oil filler bottle first: Detach the pipes attached to it. Remove the 2 10mm bolts (socket extension bar helps). Pull the bottle free (takes a bit of effort). There is a rubber pipe under the bottle which leads into the engine, remove this and you will see a short metal pipe leading. Clean...

Re: 1.4 2005 Large Oil Leak from Engine, don't know what to do.

Is the car losing water? Is there white smoke at all? Is there pressure building in the water system. Check under the oil filler cap for mayonnaise like substance indicating water getting into the oil. Check the coolant filler tank (when cold!) for signs of oil in the water. Should be obvious if it'...

Re: Stop warning light and beeping noise when I accelerate or turn right.

Wow, that's pretty poor.. I would insist they to completely bleed and replace your brake fluid as air/moisture will have entered due to low level and open bleed nipple. Then check for any damage caused by the leaking fluid to paint work (car or alloys) as brake fluid is very nasty stuff. They should...

Re: Weird problem with my engine 1.5dci

Long shot but perhaps the exhaust is hitting something when cold but ok once slightly expanded after warm up? The middle heat shield on my 1.9 came loose and it sounded terrible inside the car but hardly noticeable outside. It was also fine when moving at constant speed but banged at idle or when ac...

Re: Stop warning light and beeping noise when I accelerate or turn right.

Hi, If you are not confident with car mechanicals (and taking your car to Halfords for a service suggests not) then you need to take it back to them and explain what you are seeing. It appears a problem with the brakes. Could be ABS, could be loose wire or something more serious. If serious I would ...

Re: Fault Code P0487 and smoke on acceleration!!!

Some simple tasks: I would first take out the EGR valve and clean it up. Very easy, takes about 20 mins to get it off. Also check all the breather pipes are clear (incl little metal one from filler bottle to engine) and air filter, fuel filter clean. I had that code, cleaning EGR fixed it for couple...

Re: Lower Suspension Arm.

I believe you can replace the ball joint BUT will need a machine press to get them out/put new ones in properly. Must easier and better in the long run to replace the whole arm. Seem to recall others who just replaced the ball joint finding it didn't sit correctly or even split the arm where pressed...

Re: 1.5dci egr...yeah, i know!

I've a 1.9dci so cant say....but does look correct. Suggest checking the manuals linked to above. My DMF is on the way out - confirmed when the timing belt was changed where a slight 'give' in the springs was note by the mechanic. This doesn't cause me rough idle (blocked EGR valve did) but it is no...

Re: 1.9 dci egr blank

It's quite a noisy engine and my first diesel so can't really say.

I've also ditched the pointless engine cover which may increase noise at speed but used to rattle at idle and be just as annoying.

Re: 1.9 dci egr blank

Quick update. Passed the MOT with defective EGR valve off and EML light still on so.... EGR now blanked (180 turn) and car running better than ever ;-) plus averaging around 56mpg on my mainly motorway commute.

Re: 2004 renault megane 1.5dci black smoke and power loss

Have you changed the air filter and fuel filter recently? My 1.9 dci only puts out black smoke when the filters are in need of changing. Tend to change both at the same time so not sure which is the culprit. Change them and no black smoke at all, just a little grey puff on hard acceleration.

Cheap EGR Valve - 1.9 dci 120 2004

Fed up of the engine light being on I've finally decided to replace the EGR valve.

Anyone tried a flea bay cheap version and found it ok? I did buy one before but when I checked resistance it was no where near OEM spec so sent it back.

Re: oil leak

I also very much doubt your car is non-turbo but happy to be proved wrong. As mentioned when the tube from oil filler bottle to engine was blocked oil consumption on my 1.9 dci was very bad. Still leaks oil around the turbo area but manageable. You need to check the rubber pipe and the narrow metal ...

Re: horn

Assuming it's the same as hatchback then it's in front of the radiator behind the bumper. So front bumper has to come off. Very easy job, takes around 5 mins once you've done it before. Also easy to change the horn. I changed my horn 3 years ago as failed MOT, being too quiet. New horn is now almost...

Re: timing belt

Apols Fishermanferg - should have looked at your profile. In that case my engine is different so can't help access the belt. Perhaps the manuals (in sticky at top of forum) will help? Personally I've let mine go the full 72k, not worrying about the age, as the car is in constant use. Were it standin...
