When the dephaser packed up on ours, it only made a noise when starting from cold for a few seconds. It sounded more like the starter motor gear not meshing. It was replaced under warranty by Renault. Don't know if ours was typical for this fault.

Re: Front coil spring replacement???
Just an update to say all done now. :D The springs were a pig to fit, had to use 4 spring compressors to get them compressed enough to be able to fit the top mount/bearing. The main problem is that the springs are tapered top and bottom, which means that it is difficult to compress it far en...

Re: Front coil spring replacement???
HI Chris, I'm fitting a pair of springs to the front, TBH I would n't just fit one side only for the reason you mention. I got a pair of top mount kits (bearing and top mount) £41 inc VAT - Renault wanted £83 each!!! I found some on ebay, £35 inc postage, but I need to get it done this weekend so pa...

Re: Front coil spring replacement???
Thanks, Chris. I was wondering about the top mount, the spring seems to have pushed itself out of the top mount and wedged in the top of the wing! Can you remember how much the top bearing was? Is it a Renault dealer only part? I wonder if the top mount may have seized and caused the spring t...

Front coil spring replacement???
Hi, Has anyone changed the front springs on their Megane? The drivers side has snapped on my car. Are there any things to watch out for? Does anyone know the spanner size required to undo the nut on the top shock mounting? I'll also be replacing the front and rear brake pads, do I need any special t...

Re: Boot lock, key card
The card must be OK if it allows you to open the doors and start the car. Sounds like a fault with the electrics that control the central locking for the boot. Is it keyless entry? Can't see why starting the car should make any difference, though.

Re: Window problem poll
Drivers side window failed on mine last year, but Renault agreed to pay 90% (I think, may have been 95), So i can't help with cause in my case other than it was the regulator.
Window problems are by far and away the biggest problem with the Megane. Thankfully, not too many roof faults!!

Re: Creaking Windows With The Roof Down
Probably the body flexing, they are not the most rigid of cars with roof down. Try going round a roundabout with the roof down and the windows up it's scarey how much the gap between the windscreen and frame alters.

Re: Chrome Roll Bars
I think "exploding" is a slight exaggeration! :) If the car rolls over with the roof down the roll hoops extend to prevent you doing a "Richard Hammond" if you were sat in the back. The screen surround protects people in the front seats. I'm sure it was an optional extra when we ...

BTW I always deadlock it whether the sensors are disabled or not. I live on the coast, the last thing you want is toxic seagull crap on your leather, it burns into your paint if you are not careful so god knows what mess it would make of your leather!! SWMBO had to roof down today and a bird ...
