Matt,mine has the same noise from cold start up but goes after about 5 mins. Dealer said it is a very small fan that circulates the air within the mirror housing for the climate control.

As i have mentioned on other threads i nearly always get a genuine 56.5 mpg (computor reading 53/54 mpg) on mixed driving of around 150 miles a day. O/D, sounds like maff sensor fault.Had mine changed 2 months ago,fuel consumption went from 48mpg on computor/52 mpg actual to 53 on comp./57 actual.I drive around 150 miles a day long journies to 1st customer then stop /start most of the day.

Why bother with them minty,it's well known that if you drive thro' a lot of water they throw up a fault light on dash & when you come to sell the car it will be devalued if tyre sensors fitted.

stevie, increase in power as follows,

diesel turbo + intercooler +30%

diesel non-turbo +20%

petrol turbo +10/15%

petrol non turbo +5%

all increases are approx. & go for plug in or remap.
