I'm not sure, I was unfortunate enough to have a coil, camshaft sensor and dephaser pulley fail in quick sucession :/.

I suspect for both of you this is probably a sign the dephaser pulley is on its way out. Mine was like this for about 6 months before a grinding noise was audible when first starting the car.

The bad news is its a £400-£600 fix if your out of warranty.

Battery has nothing to do with the card reader, battery is for remote central locking, even when battery is flat the car will still start.

If you have hands free it has a hell of a lot to do with it if you don't put the card in the car reader...

The 1.6 of that year could be a bit jerky in gear changes and suffer from coil and dephaser pulley failures. Take it for a good test drive and open the bonnet with the engine running and keep an ear out for any exces noises.

AA warranties are very good and the £600 does cover just about everything. Many people use warranties direct. Enjoy the panoramic sunroof, I miss it on my Scenic and it was nice on the Megane more for the light, as I found it didn't do much but introduce alot of noise when on the motorways. Good cho...

I would second the 1.5dci over the 1.9 90bhp version. Quite how they make an engine as small as the 1.5dci perform so well I dunno.

If it is an oil issue I really wouldn't risk starting the car because of the damage that can be done. You need to get it to a garage.

I've not tried it in a Renault 1.9 but the Mondeo with the more powerful 2.0 diesel unit was happy to get moving with minimal slippage. Either way its not a practice I would recommend.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah its exactly the same as that minus the climate control. I guess I can but try then or maybe try that JVC single DIN model.

Ray whats the depth between the rear of the screen and the front of the actual stereo unit on your pioneer? I ask because my scenic seems to have quite recessed unit so im wondering if it would actually fit when the screens unfolded.

Moving off in second in more powerful diesels is fairly easy and normally wouldn't cause too much more wear on the clutch but whats the point when theres a 1st gear designed to get you moving, as on all the powerful diesels ive used its only good for about 2-3 mph then its begging to be changed up.
