I haven't had any problems with the ITG and haven't heard about any problems when using a K&N, so I think you should be fine.

To be honest you probably won't feel any difference with a performance panel filter, I didn't with an ITG. However, they are proven to allow more air flow which can't be a bad thing. Plus the K&N will last you however long you have the car. Venom are usually very cheap so that eBay price sounds ...

You're going to fabricate one yourself?
I'd say the easiest way of doing this, on the 1.5 at least, is to buy a second hand cat and simply hollow it out. I think that is my next step If I can be bothered.

I had mine booked in at a well known chain of custom exhaust places last Friday. Originally they quoted £140 for a decat pipe, but once they got under there and had a proper look they said there was no way they could do it for what they quoted. Fair enough. Sounds easier to just swap the arm out though tbh. Plus you renew the bushes when you do a full arm which is always a good thing.
