Thanks for the comments. I will have a think about it. I'm not one to rush into things. Motorpoint have some new 1.6 VVT Autos in at the moment with leather interior. Quite tempted. What does put me off is I think there's a new Megane in 2008. Bit worried about residuals once the new model comes out...

I have the genuine mudflap thingies on my car. They're good but with the fat 17 inch tyres they don't stop all the mud flying up onto the rear window. The front ones are very easy to fit as you can turn the wheel on lock to create access. The rear ones are more fiddly, you will need a Torx set and t...

Megane 1.6 VVT Automatic

Hello I am thinking of buying another Megane. This time I want a 1.6 VVT and I want automatic gearbox. I don't know why really, maybe I'm getting old. :( I have enjoyed the dCi Megane but I don't do enough miles to justify a diesel. Do you think my idea is a good one? I have also considered a Focus ...

Lean burn was dumped as a technology years ago. Cars have catalysts now unfortuntely.

Depends what's covered. £500 seems a bit steep. See if they will come down. You could always try another provider but check the small print very carefully. I've not bothered with the extended warranty on mine. Like yours mine has been 100% reliable but only a few small but irritating faults. I...

It should be covered under warranty. With a car so new I would have it serviced at Platinum Renault. Is your local garage using the correct oil?

The switch often plays up - try waggling it from side to side.
When you deadlock the car the roof should close.

I have an 04 1.5 dCi. A few silly electrical problems but generally an excellent car. Later ones had some of these silly problems sorted out, such as the window regulators.

Good car, worth buying.

I prefer the 16's. 17's make the ride too harsh and they wear quickly. My fronts only last 16K and I don't drive very hard.

Mine faded as well. Makes the car look shabby.
Try some boot polish.

Oh well. I was rather hoping that someone would say "Renault didn't get a few things quite right with the early Meganes but have spent a lot of time and money eradicating the bugs. It's now as good or possibly better than any other car on the road." I might give it a go though. Or wait for the New L...

Megane 1.6 VVT

If I were to buy a 2007 1.6 Megane, would it be reasonable to assume that:

1. The dephaser problems are fixed.

2. The window regulators are fixed.

3. No more squeeling brakes.

4. Better build quality?
