Re: REPLACING STEERING RACK AXIAL BALL JOINT

Don't waste over £60 buying the part from Renault Alan. I got mine via the local Motorfactor and paid £12 for a part made by QH. Yes twelve pounds - and that included VAT!! Since the Renault ones are rubbish the QH ones can hardly be worse! I did not have to quote chassis or model numbers or even ye...

REPLACING STEERING RACK AXIAL BALL JOINT

Hi folks. If your Meg has free movement or "play" at the road wheel and it is not the track rod end, suspect a worn axial ball joint on the end of the steering rack. I understand that these wear out quite often and this applies to other Renault models as well. Our 03 Meg has a worn joint o...

Re: REPLACING 1.5DCI TIMING BELT??

Dave did you see Pastymuncher's reply to my query about belt tension?
I would go for it!
(Look at his video clip. Is he the STIG....?)

Re: 1.9 Dci Timing Belt Problem?

Thanks Stu. You are quite right, for years this was the normal way to tension a belt and I don't think you will encounter any problems. The mystery is why Renault decided that a little (and expensive!) tensioning tool was needed to do the job. Why did the Renault engineers not fit the 1.9dci with a ...

Re: MEGANE TRACK ROD END/STEERING RACK

Nige I don't have any photos but if you look in the Renault service manual (on the internet) you will find some good illustrations of the axial ball joint and the instructions to change it.

Re: REPLACING 1.5DCI TIMING BELT??

Dave, I am intrigued by this tensioning business. I've had a look at my Megane service manual (Renault) and the tensioning tool is a small, fiendish device MOT1273, part mechanical, part electronic. Imagine a tool with 3 pegs, the central one moveable. The belt fits over the outer two and under the ...

Re: 1.9 Dci Timing Belt Problem?

Stu, I'm interested to know how you set the final tension of the belt before tightening the tensioner - or do you have access to Renault tool MOT1273?

Cheers, Mike

Re: REPLACING 1.5DCI TIMING BELT??

Hello there, thanks for the response. I have no experience of the 1.9 but having read that chapter in the Haynes manual, it is a bit of a problem. The1.9 does not need an accurate TDC timing pin as the 1.5 does, as an 8mm bolt or drill will suffice. On the other hand a special Renault tool is needed...

REPLACING 1.5DCI TIMING BELT??

Hi Megane folks! I have just replaced our 1.5dci cambelt. Are you intending to do yours? It's a fiddly job but not the most difficult I have done by a long chalk! If you need advice, get in touch. When should the belt be changed? Depends on who you talk to! Renault recommend after 5 years max. Senor...

Re: APPEAL TO RENAULT

I've just joined and spotted this thread which has been running for some years! I haven't read all the postings but there are several golden rules about turbos. Remember, diesel turbos are not new. They were being used in lorries and diesel locomotives in the fifties and were invented long before th...

Re: MEGANE TRACK ROD END/STEERING RACK

Hello Gary, I have read and reread your question but am not certain what has happened to your Megane. This is probably because I'm the wrong side of 65 and get easily confused nowadays! Do I gather that a component connected to the steering system, has broken? Can you see behind the near side wheel ...
