Problem solved.

It wasn't the coolant temp sensor.

My 2005 Megane 1.4 16V has been fine until recently. You are doing the right thing -- clean it. I think the Tech. Note mentions that some gasket must be replaced when doing it. Well replaced all 4 ignition coils and i still have the same shacky idle. Need to inverstigate further.

Thanks mate, but that was also me asking the same question on the Fiatforum. Sadly that method of testing coils didn't work as the coils are different to the ones they are thinking off.

Thanks for the replies. When i fully serviced the car i noticed the engine rocks quite a bit, but with this movement i would expect it to cushion any vibrations from the engine rather than enhance them. Best way would be to see how the engine moves in the engine bay whilst on I guess. I dont want to...
