Re: Grrr - aircon compressor

thanks - i think you are right. I will source a second hand one and see what a garage will charge to fit it (don't want to be irresponsible and release r134a into environment).

Cheers

Grrr - aircon compressor

Hello Megraine 2, 49k miles but is practically a new car on account of the amount of new parts its had. Anyway, the compressor clutch has decided to fail - does anyone know if the compressor clutch can be replaced (any DIYs?) or does the whole compressor need replacing? I took the belt off, and the ...

Re: Alarm going off, been sat for 12 months

i dont think there is any issue if u leave the battery out for a long time. I bought a megane that had been standing with no battery for about 8 months and all was fine . Put in a new battery and it started up with no issues Great, thank you I'll get a different battery and see if that helps. Cheers

Re: Alarm going off, been sat for 12 months

12 months is time to service the car insteed of just top up the oil and put some oil on the filter... Sort of agree with you. It might get a service if it behaves itself! :) What are they worth these days? 04 plate 1.6vvti, privilege, 48k ish, lots of features incl leather, key less etc. £1500 ? Ha...

Re: Alarm going off, been sat for 12 months

Thanks Dave Good idea on jacking it up. Its not in an ideal place (brick blockwork driveway) but i'll sort something out. Any idea on the alarm please? Computer not likely to have erased all its codes is it? The battery was off the car for about 5 months I would say. Before starting I was going to p...

Alarm going off, been sat for 12 months

Hi 04 plate 1.6 vvti, was laid up about 12 months ago and the battery removed. The handbrake was left off with the car in gear. I've decided to flog it, as it surplus to requirements, so today tried installing battery - the alarm goes off immediately and the fob(s) buttons do not deactivate it. Inse...

Re: cars rocking on tickover

Mine does the same too - a 1.6 vvt though, not 1.4, though i'm sure they are similar layout On mine, you can easily move the engine 2 inches back and forth, due to what seems to be play in the mount near the camshaft pulleys. On close inspection of that mount, the rubber looks in good condition and ...

Re: Toxic Fumes Warning Light

OK i'll join the club but i'm wondering if a new thread might be better - i'm experiencing an odd "wandering" misfire behaviour. My megane 1.6 vvt on a 04 plate, 40k miles, started misfiring with the dreaded toxic fumes light flashing. Got it home, codes were p0304 (cylinder 4 misfire) and...

Castrol Edge OK?

Hi there

Sorry, I did look around and the manual is a little confusing.

Will Castrol Edge Sport 0W-40 or 5w-40 be ok for the 1.6 VVT engine, can somebody confirm please?

Reason being I can get the stuff quite cheap and my other car needs this oil (6.5 litres of the stuff).

Thanks
Mike

Re: Passenger Side Window Dead

Thanks guys. Reg it is then.

So at 04/38k the concensus is to try the dealer for a goodwill, but it will likely be refused?

Re: Passenger Side Window Dead

OK sounds like "the" regulator problem. What a piece of crap this car is.

Its got 34k on it, does anyone think a trip to a dealer is worthwhile to see about a good will repair? 04 plate.

Can someone confirm for me this does sound like a regulator problem? Thanks.

Passenger Side Window Dead

HI there The passenger side window on our 2004 megane is dead; no sound from the motor (so mechanism not stuck) engine revs dont dip either so no current draw. I'm tempted to think switch, assume there is no fuse specific for that window? All other windows work fine. Any ideas please? This megane so...

Re: new owner 2004 1.6vvt questions

I'll get it up on ramps at the weekend to see if its been in an accident. Whats the position if this car turns out to have been badly repaired, I bought from a dealer 4 weeks ago but its HPI clear, RAC clear etc. Car was bought by dealer from a well known local business who have supplied them lots ...

Re: new owner 2004 1.6vvt questions

Wheel bearings?? *sigh* I guess it could be, why not? Probably easier to find out what doesn't go wrong with this car, then start from there. Could wheel bearings really be shot at 32k miles? EDIT; Took it for a drive earlier.. slightly damp road. Did a very harsh break in an attempt to lock all fou...
