Re: Metal clanging sound under braking - UPDATED!

I have booked the car in for repairs (to be done under warranty as the car is only 6 weeks old).

Since my last post I have discovered that the sound is coming from the footwell area and 9/10 times occurs when I depress the brake pedal.

I will keep you posted!

Re: Metal clanging sound under braking?

I've slapped the seat but I'm no closer to finding out what is causing the sound.

Any other ideas?

Re: Metal clanging sound under braking?

It's most likely to be a wiring connector floating around and just touching a piece of metal or somthing? :? I don't think so. It's the sort of sound that you could reproduce by knocking two metal bars together (hence my wind chime comparison). I know it sounds strange, but the sound also seems to ...

Re: Metal clanging sound under braking?

Hello Peter, How loud is this sound? Is it possible to reproduce it by slapping the passenger seat with the palm of your hand? Considering how quiet a Megane is, the sound is very obvious. I'll have a go at slapping the passenger seat, but I'm not sure that will reproduce the sound. I noticed yeste...

Re: Brand new car - noisy gearbox?

Sadly, you get what you pay for. I only paid £8,995.01 for my 1.4 brand new. You would probably have to pay a hell of a lot more for a BMW, Merc or Saab with it's associated quality. Fair point, but despite the great value for money that these cars offer, I would still expect them to be manufacture...

Re: Brand new car - noisy gearbox?

hi peter i didnt quite understand the post you are replying to either- i have had my megane for a year since it had 18000 miles on the clock and it sounded the same then as it does now- it is transmission whine that is annoying but is ever present- and mine does everything yours does- i think it is...

Metal clanging sound under braking - UPDATED!

Gents, My car: 2008 Megane 1.4, bought brand new 18 days ago, now with 600 miles on the clock. I have noticed that when I am braking whilst driving downhill, there is a metallic clanging sound coming from the dashboard / pedal area. It sounds a bit like a wind chime with only one tone. The noise is ...

Re: Brand new car - noisy gearbox?

This subject again... Have you ever driven a car without synchromesh on any gear? It is the synchromesh which adds stiffness by not permitting gear change until the gear speeds are equalised. I already wrote about it. If you don't believe me, then just open the parts part of the manual and look at ...

Re: Brand new car - noisy gearbox?

I get a whine when accelerating past 50mph but I think it's the differential rather than the g/box. I suspect it's just a resonance as it has always been there and has not got any worse after 22,000 miles. I also get a slight resonance at around 30mph but I only notice this on particularly smooth, ...

Re: Brand new car - noisy gearbox?

The car is very quiet and therefore the gearbox noise (if that's what it is) is so noticeable! I don't think the dealer has checked the oil level. I'll give it another 400 miles and will pop back to the dealer at 1k miles if the noise is still there. Is the 1.4 gearbox different to the 1.6 engined c...

Brand new car - noisy gearbox?

Gents (ladies?), My 08 reg Megane 1.4 has 600 miles on the clock. I bought it brand new with 9 miles on the clock and have driven it very gently. I'm not sure why, but I can hear a whine coming from the gearbox. It is most noticeable at 50MPH in fifth gear, up to around 55. Acceleration from a stand...

Re: 2008 Megane - New member saying hello!

Thanks guys! This apparently is the last update / facelift for the Megane II before the III is launched towards the end of 2008. The side mouldings are different to earlier cars and they are colour coded, as are the door handles. There is a chrome (plastic!) slat within the grille and the wheels are...

2008 Megane - New member saying hello!

Hi guys, My name is Peter and I've just picked up my new Megane. It's a 1.4 Expression Sportshatch version. Here's some pics: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v214/technics1974/a1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v214/technics1974/a2.jpg It's not the fastest model but it's more than adequate f...
