Steering clunk from front end while stationary
I know that the words 'Megane II' & 'steering clunk' go hand in hand, however this clunk is rather weird. It happens when stationary or during parking maneuvers - while turning the steering wheel a momentary metallic 'clunk' can be clearly heard in the cabin coming from the front end of the car....

Re: 1,6 K4M VVT Problem (Hesitation when cold, loss of power)
@RallySport: can you tell your garage to flash the ECU to the latest firmware? The problem with Renault's idiotic ECU flashing system is that apparently every ECU can be flashed only once, and then it becomes 'locked'. I've seen this with my own eyes, I have tried multiple times to flash the latest ...

Re: vibration when the car is iddle
Actually the 1,6 is generally 'juddery' when idling. I have driven quite a few 1,6 M2s and all of them exhibit a quite random juddering sensation felt mostly in the seat when idling. This is totally random, sometimes the engine can be completely smooth, other times juddery. But if it becomes very no...

Re: 1,6 K4M VVT Problem (Hesitation when cold, loss of power)
Guys, the dephaser pulley alone apparently does not cure all hesitation problems. I have looked at this morning start hesitation problem extensively and I have gotten nowhere. My car always starts up fine no matter what, does not produce weird sounds and generally runs fine. But on every cold start ...

If you feel the knock originating from the upper part of the steering column it could be the airbag clockspring mechanism (or 'rotary switch') behind the steering wheel which is on its way out...

Does your car have an automatic gearbox? If yes, then it may be normal, if on the other hand you 've got a manual then its definitely not normal...

Re: Crank Sensor/Throttle Body fault 1.6 VVT
It could be a MAP sensor problem. Although it should throw up a fault code, perhaps the fault is intermittent and within the sensor's range so the ECU does not log a fault...

Question about petrol fuel pump
I have a question about the Megane's petrol fuel pump, located in the fuel tank of the car. I had an random intermittent stalling problem along with occasional kangarooing in high gears that I could not pinpoint. No error codes were stored in the ECU. I had planned a trip so not wanting to have the ...

Re: Changed coils, now won't start.
Does the 'horrible ticking over noise' sound like a bag of spanners being shaken about? Sort of a metallic rattle?
If so, then your problem is a failed dephaser pulley, not the ignition coils...

Re: Strange Intermittent Judder/Loss Of Power, Now Cutting Out!
I tried a new camshaft position sensor as well as a new TDC sensor + wiring. No difference, the car still occasionally cuts out while waiting at a traffic light.
I have a spare MAP sensor I got from a mechanic friend which I'll try tommorow... Although I doubt that could be it... Any suggestions?

Re: Rust on steering components
The metal tube you saw above the pedal is the steering column. I have never heard reports of rust on this part... Weird.
I don't think its a problem (there are many parts of the car that carry surface rust and thats normal). But check it with a dealer just to be sure...

Re: new owner 2004 1.6vvt questions
The TDC sensor in the 1,6 K4M engine has slightly different symptoms than on non-VVT equipped engines. On most Renaults a knackered TDC sensor means trouble starting the engine or occasional cutting out whilst idling (very rarely it is possible for the engine to cut out in gear whilst driving). Howe...

Renault engines are known for their 'rattly/diesel-y' sound. Actually the 1,4 engine is sometimes affectionately called by owners as a 'rattler'. Its normal.

Re: Dephaser pulley diagram
It's funny how car manufacturers just can't learn from a competing company's mistakes. In this case, if Renault had done its homework and checked into Alfa Romeo's dephaser issues we might not have had to deal with this problem... Every 147 & 156 owner fears the dreaded 'diesel rattle' on a cold...
