I had a small amount of water coming into the boot during heavy rain. I checked the boot lid seal, which seemed in good condition with no splits, and cleaned the seals with silicon lubricant, but the leak was still there. In the absence of any ideas from members I bought some silicon spray grease from Maplin and sprayed the pedal mechanism. Don't know if it's cured the problem but it hasn't re-occurred, and the pedal is much smoother, even during a 90 minute stop-start venture into town in very heavy traffic. Fingers...
