all sorted, none start was crank sensor, once that was changed car started and ran as normal
looking at codes also indicated cam sensor so changed that too even though car seemed to be running fine

and, along similar lines, should it be possible to take the card out and lock the card with the engine still running? "feature" or fault? Also, the thing is fitted with a radio with combined cd player, can anyone tell me if that will play mp3 files? What are the cd changer options? Ebay ha...
