I know on the 1.9dci ( 53 plate - f9q 800 (A) engine that they are slightly recessed into the head but not by very much. 2mm at very most. probs find you have a blocked EGR. My nail was the same when i first got it and had to strip it and clean it all out. best way to check for a worn turbo is checking the shaft for play.. you should have about 1mm push / pull movement.. but no side to side movement. Do you have the same problem when you turn the headlights on or main beam ? or is it just the heaters you have The issue with ? If no faults are showing on the reader, then If you can clean the sensors yourself making sure they are free from crap and dirt.

check youre hoses and look for a vacum leak somewhere...
in rare cases a loose vacum pipe can make an engine run ruff..
Also did the garage clear the code fault when the coil was replaced.

Yeah it starts when I rev it, well this time it did. It has recently been MOT'd and Serviced before I bought it. I've heard it could be something to do with faulty ignition coils.. hmm i very much Doubt it as youd have the same problem if the car was started from warm + other problems like poor mpg...
