Unbelievable! Let there be lights!!!

Something odd is going on. A couple of weeks back, I started a thread about my car not having any reversing lights working. I followed the advice given on here by forum members and checked the bulbs, the fuse in the engine compartment and replaced the reversing light switch on the lower left front o...

Re: Rattling noise when moving Gear lever

Just because I'ts not doing it now doesn't mean the problem has gone away! so Im still asking for any advice. It's a 5 speed box on a 1.6VVT I'm curios to know what it could be that gave that sound? When you put it in gear, the sound coming from outside the car kind of reminds me of someone closing ...

Rattling noise when moving Gear lever

Hi Folks, I’m hearing a strange noise whilst moving the gear lever when the car is stationery and the engine is off. When moving the gear lever into gear with either the clutch in or out it sounds like it’s banging up against something metal under the car. Sounds a bit like linkage hitting the exhau...

Re: Can't see in the dark whilst reversing.

So what everyone really means is, this is likely to be a big job, and almost certainly going to be expensive to sort out :eek

Am I about right in my assumption?

Russ.

Strong Oily Smell?

Hi Guys, I just had an oil and filter change on my 55 plate Megane after a 9000 mile interval. It’s a 1.6 vvt and its done 25000 miles in total. (I did this in conjunction with having my reversing light switch changed due a fault I’m having with my reversing lights on a previous thread.) Anyway, aft...

Re: Can't see in the dark whilst reversing.

Yes thanks Busterlouie, very funny. :D The problem is when I’m trying to reverse into a parking space, and I get people coming up behind me, they get really close and don’t realise that I’m trying to back up. Reversing lights actually give other road users a clue that you intend to back up. Anyway Y...

Re: Can't see in the dark whilst reversing.

Ok so I'm still in the dark, Following everyone's advice on here, I've changed both bulbs and tested the old ones, they both worked OK via a tester. I replaced the reversing light switch on the gearbox. (Genuine part from Parks Renault.) I tested and replaced the 10 amp fuse 5c on the multiplex unit...

Re: Can't see in the dark whilst reversing.

Thanks Gav, I was suspicious of the switch all along, Here is the hard part, I can't find where it is :conf I've tried looking in the engine bay on the top and around al the accessible bit of the gearbox, but can't find it, is it masquerading as something ? Any clues on it's exact location would be ...

Re: Can't see in the dark whilst reversing.

Thanks again for everyone’s advice; I’ve replaced the bulbs and no change, still no lights. I will try the fuse next, I’ll need to buy one today, does anyone know what rating is so I can ask for the right one. One small observation though, (I don’t know if this is significant) but what used to happe...

Re: Can't see in the dark whilst reversing.

Thanks again, Just out of curiosity, I thought I might try to locate the reversing lights switch. I looked under the bonnet and around the gearbox area and cannot see anything bolted on with wires coming out. :( Can anyone please tell me where exactly this switch is and what it looks like? Much appr...

Re: Can't see in the dark whilst reversing.

Russ as advised change the bulbs first it'll be worth a couple of quid and your time if its just the bulb thats gone. As for the switch i believe its accessed from inside the car under the gear stick cover. Sure webcode will be back to correct me on that if its wrong. Thanks for your advice, Yes I ...

Re: Can't see in the dark whilst reversing.

Thanks folks for your response, Unfortunately I'm not a mechanic and what I know about working on cars dates back to when I had a Mk2 Ford Escort in 1978. I have no idea how to access the reversing switch on the gearbox. How do you get to it? Do I have to get underneath the car? what does the switch...

Can't see in the dark whilst reversing.

Hi Folks, I've only just noticed, but now it gets dark really early, I realised that I don't have any reversing lights. I have a 55 plate Megane 1.6 vvt, I was in a pitch dark lane tonight, and had to back up, this is when I realised that I had no reversing lights. The wife got out of the car and co...
