The low pitched 'boom' is apparently some nylon bearings, and something fairly usual - nothing to worry about. The juddering sound was indeed the strut top mounting... however i've had the noise since i've had the Megane, and handling is not noticeably affected at all, so i'm going to live with it. ...

Does anyone know if the dealer would ever check the EGR valve cleanliness as part of normal servicing? I'm on 81k now and not looked myself.

Can anyone clarify whether the rear quarter body panel directly above the rear wheelarch is aluminium or metal? I had a bit of paint touch-up done in the area and what looks like very slight rusting has started.
