You mean the trim in front of the gear stick? Underneath that is where the diagnostic/re-programming port is. It's routine to connect the computer to that and check for fault codes, no matter how obvious the problem is.

Don't blame you mate. The Megane is so nearly a great car, but so clearly a bad 'un.

Cool - I wish I'd had one of them! ;) My parents owned a 1990 Renault 19 1.4 Energy, and that was great. Nothing went wrong and it was a good car all round. If only they were all as good as that... Anyhow, I'll stop moaning now...assuming nothing else goes wrong between now and Tuesday evening when ...

Haven't quite got rid of the car yet and it's getting worse... The squealing from the brakes is getting much worse. Or maybe it sounds worse because I have to drive around with the windows open because the air-con isn't working!! Also, yesterday I tried to close the boot, pulled on the grab handle i...

It would make me a bit nervous that they make a point about so called timewasters asking for refunds.

If the part isn't as described or doesn't work then they have to offer a refund and take the item back.

Still, if they insist the item is genuinely working, then it should be OK?

Sorry no idea on cost. Try giving GSF a ring?

I know what you mean though, I think I cursed my car by coming here before I even bought it!

At a guess, it sounds like the starter motor is on its way out. Especially if the noise always stops after the car has started.

Probably not that cheap, but not catastrophic either.

My Megane does the same thing. Very noticeable in 2nd gear, it moves about 1cm when touching the accelerator. A bit odd, but nothing to worry about I guess.

I shall have much more sympathy now if I find a Renault suddenly slowing to a crawl in front of me, that's for sure!

Given all those warning messages already, do you really still want to buy it? Mine was showing a "check oil level" warning message and I dismissed it as being something the dealer could fix, and yet the car has been nothing but trouble siince (in other ways). With hindsight, that should have indicat...

Sorry no - I still have the car, probably for another week or so and I'm praying it won't fail completely before then, I simply haven't got chance to take it into the dealers before then.

At a guess, I would say it might be the coil packs playing up, but it could be one of several things.

No Renault worries here, I got shut of mine 18 months ago. However I've just got my other half a new Modus to replace the one she had. It's the perfect car for her and the last one was fault free as has been the new one upto now *crosses fingers*. All I can say is that you're much braver than I am!...

Having to keep visiting dealers is partly why I'm getting rid of mine, the nearest Renault dealer is some miles away and nowhere near my route to work, so it would be a real pain to have to keep visiting them. I really should have thought of that before hand of course! :) However, I've been used to ...
