'steps' with the power steering assistance

Hello, I went yesterday for a test drive of a Megane... all ok appart from the 'step by step' feel in the steering wheel... is that normal? I am also looking for a 1.5DCI at the moment... I have the impression than 86 (and 106) are also pre-facelift...

Is there any (dis-)advantage to go for the 80 instead of the 86 (or 100 instead of 106)?

Thank you!
