first of it is very common for the bleed niples to be of that size. check that the joints between the turbo and manifold, turbo and cat, and cat and down pipe for any leaks of exhaust gases. If the garage hasnt put new gaskets on or cleaned the mating faces corectly then this will be the likly cause. This steeply afects mpg.

is it possible to blank the egr valve off as i have seen it done on older diesel engines. its suposed to run better and quiter aswel. what a daft law anyway recurculating gases. global warming is all a conspiracy anyway.
