Re: high pitch sound when braking in slow speed....
make sure you have a decent amount of copper slip on the back of each pad. Also im going to go against whats been said before and say dont get green stuff pads. I had them on my 306GTi6 and nomatter what i did they caused massive vibration when braking hard and squeeled terribly, fitted some mintex...

Re: 'take up slack' upon driving off
Hey lucy, to be honest and i think many others will agree, if your replacing one mount...your best replacing them all! I have just ordered my top mount and still waiting for its delivery....but to be honest i think i might do all three because if ones not right in the engine they just ruin the new ...

Re: Alternater
Yes, made a worn gear box noise at about 1800 rpm up to about 3000 rpm, above this the engine noise masked it. Had a new alternator and tensioner / belt on, think it cost nearly £300!!. Car had done 56k miles when it happened but as I had just bought the car the warranty covered it.

Re: 'take up slack' upon driving off
Mine seems to do this, had the top engine mount replaced but I can still feel it clunking if I do a less than perfect gear change or I accelerate sharply. I can actualy see the gear lever move backwars so I am thinking it must be the rear gearbox / engine mount. Any one how much these are for a 1.5d...

Re: front springs twisting with noise
Agree, sounds like top strut mounts, does it do it at car parking speeds, ie quite slow with a lot of quick steering movements? If you get someone to rock the steering wheel whilst you hold onto the front spring you will feel them jumping as the top mount sticks and cause some resitance then when it...

Re: vibration
Could be a drive shaft? My partner had a BMW 5 series that did this from new and it was the tyres going out of round when the car was parked, the vibration got less the longer the journey. Try checking tyre pressures and pumping up to at least the recommended pressure. It could still be wheel balanc...

Raining and brakes pulling to one side - Help please
Went up the M6 yesterday and the rain was realy bad. I had been sitting at about 70ish for quite a few miles and had the need to feather the brakes, as soon as i touched the pedal the car pulled quite badly to the left. I applied the brakes a few more times and it was ok. I then found that if i did ...

Re: Changing Suspension
Front strut top mounts, these are prone to failure and will cause a knocking / clunking whilst turning at low speed.

Mine does that too, drips from under the speaker and into the passenger side door pocket, only does it in really heavy rain.

Re: Strange Noise - Girl Needs Help Please
Update......car is fixed at last, bearing noise was the alternator and the steering column was replaced as well. Saw the invoice for these two jobs......a few pounds under a £1000. So altogether they have spent nearly £2000 fixing my car, new engine mounting, new wheel bearing, new top strut mounts,...

Re: engine mount
Have a few issues with my 1.5dci. Bought it from a main dealer (ford) in September. Have had new front strut top mounts, engine mount and wheel bearing done so far. The car is back in to Renault tomorrow to have a new steering column and a bearing / engine noise investigated. The garage have not con...

Re: Strange Noise - Girl Needs Help Please
Time for an update. Took car back to the dealer who supplied it (TC Harrisons) and they said that nothing was wrong, after 2 hours of pushing I got the service manager to go out in the car with me and he picked up on the bearing rumble noise. The car had also started to make a clunking noise from th...

Strange Noise - Girl Needs Help Please
Hi In need of a little expert advice please. I have recently purchased a Megane 1.5dci, manual, 2004, 55k miles 3 door dynamique and after driving it for a few weeks I have notice a strange noise that sounds like a wheel bearing. I have asked a friend to listen and this is what we can determine. 1. ...
