my meg 1.4 04 has been slow in pulling up the revs recently so i had a look in to the thottle body by removing the airbox and the butterfly was well gundged up so i cleaned it with carb cleaner and put it back together now it is idleing in the 1500 to 2000 rpm range so checked that no hoses were loose still the same
i booked it in to a renault dealer to get the throttle reset the mechanic connected it to the laptop and tried adjusting things but to no avail i was told to check the seals etc so brought it home and did that still doing it
has anybody had this problem before and managed to cure this as i feel like a young racer when i stop at lights and junctions

Re: throttle issues
after getting a break in the weather today i removed the air fillter and airbox,
looking at the butterfly it is clean should i put any grease or wd on the pivot?
also could i have damaged the butterfly when i turned it to clean it?
can anybody help me with any ideas that help solve my problem

Re: throttle issues
Did you fit it back properly? There may be a vacuum leak.

Re: throttle issues
hi Dave i made sure the airbox was tight on to the seal of the throttle body and the bolts were tight i will double check when i get a break in the rain and will post back here
Re: throttle issues
i managed to have a look at the throttle today i took off the airbox and the seal looks intact around the throttle i have put grease around the rubber seal and the small pipe below it ( should there be a rubber seal around that one? ) and put it back on it feels tight and bolted it up tight
when i cleaned it originally i didn't take the throttle off i only took the airbox off could i have damaged something inside the throttle it's self ?
also is it possible to purchase new seals

Re: throttle issues
I doubt that you have damaged it but I know little about the petrol range. If I had to guess it would be either
a) a split in a hose (try spraying some soapy water on the hoses that lead to the throttle - see if you get bubbles)
b) damaged throttle pedal potentiometer/throttle position sensor/cabling to the body.
Try disconnecting the battery for 30+ minutes then try it again. Make sure you know the radio code and how to reset the windows (both can be solved by searching on here).
Just found this: "Programming the throttle end stops
When replacing the computer or the motorised throttle valve, with the ignition on, wait 30 seconds so that the
computer may program the MAX and MIN limits, then switch off the ignition and wait 30 seconds for the end of the
Power Latch, so that the computer may store the programmed limits.
Check the programming using ET051 Throttle stop programming."

Re: throttle issues
hi there
not had a good day today i managaed to check leaks around the throttle body between the airbox and the body , the small pipe on the top to the purge thing and can't find leaks so i am ordering new seals and going to take the body off to check it properly
but while checking and leaning over the engine my feet slipped and my arm hit the map sensor and snapped it off so now i have had to order 1 of those too
does anybody know how to remove the map sensor as there is part of it still stuck in the main body where it should be?
now i wish i never touched the throttle in the first place,

Re: throttle issues
having replaced the map sensor and changed the seals on the throttle i still had the same situation so had to book it in to renault for diagnostic to find out what was going on
after the check i was told there was a sensor in the air con that was faulty and was telling the air con compressor to draw power so was increasing the revs over £200 inc regassing aircon
also when looking through my mot paperwork my car only just passed the lambda test so thinking that 1 of the sensors is on the way out
so it looks like i am going to trade it in
thank you for your help
