fault code

Postby kemp596 » Wed May 12, 2010 8:02 pm

Hi just had my car on the diagnostic machine, its brought up a fault code
DTC -89.
INTERMITANT,
RAIL PRESSURE REGULATOR,
FUNCTION; CD MEASURE PRESSURE TO HIGH.

What does this mean anyone know ? The other day the STOP light came on with error message "check injectors" and the car was running rough, it only came on when going over 2500 rpm though.

try replacing the pressure regulator sensor, i have had one go down on a 1.5 before failing that it could be your pump

I agree. Also one of your injectors could be blocked / faulty.

Someone who i work with has a brother who works at renault i asked him wot the fault code is. He said it could be a number of things, he thinks it is most likely the common rail solenoid, or the wiring for it that has a fault. is this easy to change yourself ? or is it a garage job

So far as I know, the common rail is de-pressurised the moment the engine is shut off on a diesel. The sensor should just unplug and unbolt. To be honest, I'd have to look at the one on mine to be 100% sure, but it's dark, so I can't.

Not sure what/where the common rail solenoid is. From memory it is part of the high pressure fuel pump. Again, I'd have to check. If the problem turns out to be the fuel pump, it's a garage job unless you are very handy with the spanners. It would also cost much money.

The wiring may be faulty, but the problem could lie elsewhere as Nathan and I have suggested. Unfortunately I have no idea how to test any of the components. Someone with a CLIP may be able to fine tune the advice.

I suggest you check the wiring first (give the pressure sensor's connector a good dose of WD40). If you can't clear the code by doing that, check the wiring for chafing. Failing that, replace the sensor. Beyond that stage you need to spend a fair bit.

Let us know how you get on.

look in the online PDF manuals in the sticky viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12790
MR366MEGANE1.pdf is the fault code findings document.

code 89 is equivalent to DF053 see page 13B-61 for what to test and how to fix.
