Megane 225 Cambelt advise needed

Hi I just joined this site for a bit of advise. My Megane sport 225 (54 Plate) is due for a cambelt change soon. I phoned my local renault garage and they quoted me £1047 for the cambelt change and £372 for the service!!!!!! When I stopped laughing the bloke on the end of the phone said whats funny !!!??? I asked him if he was joking and he said no.

Is this price crazy or is it just me? Over £1,400 for service and cambelt change. They did say the engine has to come out, is this true?

I know some car mechanics who i'm sure would do it for mates rates if i buy the parts but would you recommend getting it done at Renault?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

I don't know what other people think but i would never get anything done by Renault anymore to be honest.

Ive had too much bad experience with them doing more harm than good to my car

The kind of price u pay makes you expect the dogs b******s in terms of service but their just not good enough.

I got my cambelt done last month by a local garage, they also replaced the water pump and auxiliary belt for just over 300 all in. I have a 1.9dci btw.

you shouldnt be paying more than 300 for a cambelt change. Sounds like they've tried to rip you off.
